Honecker Bunker

Object 17 5001-19 was popularly called the Honeker bunker, near Prenden This nuclear bunker was built for the leadership of the former GDR It was constructed in such a way that it could withstand a direct impact from a nuclear warhead, and the occupants were then self-sufficient for about 20 days could stay in the bunker.

Large parts of the three-storey facility are oscillating in order to be able to intercept the seismic wave of a nuclear weapon detonation. For this purpose, spring mechanisms and nitrogen-filled pneumocord shock absorbers (PKU) were used to absorb shock waves of up to 14 g to 1 g.

The bunker was completed in 1983 after 5 years of construction

The actual bunker has not been accessible for several years. Economic buildings, sports facilities, workshops .. tell their own story.
